Auckland city, the most populous city in New Zealand is in the centre of Auckland region. Auckland region stretches from the Whangaparaoa Peninsula in the North down to the Bombay Hills in the South. The Auckland region stretches from extensive wild west coast beaches in the Tasman Sea, to the east coast white sand beaches where it meets the Pacific Ocean.

Auckland city is situated between Manukau Harbour and Waitemata Harbour. This makes it a particularly attractive city from the point of view of having many accessible sand beaches and nearby islands.
