One of the childhood illnesses that most worried my husband and me when our children were young was croup. We found that taking the child into a steamy atmosphere was the most effective remedy. Dr Exton acknowledges that many parents hold that view, although her recommendation is for paracetamol syrup and lots of cuddles. I liked the fact that, although she says that 'experts' say it does no good, she does not rubbish the steam remedy.
