What's on in Christchurch and Canterbury - Autumn 2010
Court's Theatre
The Court's new crackling comedy The Female of the Species opened on Saturday to a delighted audience that "roared with laugher" (The Press).
Experience part hostage drama, part satire and part outrageous farce as a deranged fan breaks in to famous author Margot Mason's house and holds her hostage.
The Female of the Species has been described by critics as:
"uniformly excellent... it is very funny" - The Press
"Set in the indulgent world of Margot Mason, acknowledged high priestess of feminist theory, author of such illuminating texts as 'Madame Ovary' and 'The Cerebral Vagina', the action stems from a familiar imperative: the publisher is on her trail for an overdue money spinner. Then come the surprises. Indeed, wonderful entry lines are a feature of the cavalcade of characters arriving in her country retreat, all with post post feminist theories of their own to contribute.
