Fitzy Leaves The Game * Sean Fitzpatrick Tribute *

Mark – 2/5/98

Well, Captain Sean Fitzpatrick will not play for
the All Blacks ever again. After 92 test matches, this week he announced his retirement due to a knee injury, which he received in South Africa in July of last year.

Considered by many as one of New Zealand’s all-time best players of ‘the game’, Fitzy will certainly be missed by many All Black fans around the world. He has been a strong and charismatic leader, and has brought joy and pride to many a New Zealander with his ruthless, but mirthful, approach to the game.

Despite myself being a Cantabrian, I easily forgot the injustices of past regional games when he donned the black jersey. Jeez it was good to have him on your side, you always knew that he would give one hundred percent. I think we’ll all miss that seemingly innocent countenance of his when an opposing player would get terribly riled at him over some “indiscretion” in the scrum.
